The Empty Child

I hide
I hear everything too loudly
I am falling apart
I grew up too fast
I am still a child
I cannot stand still
I see every detail
I panic
I cannot remember what I'm doing
I talk about dinosaurs and doctors and darkrooms
I cry for no reason
I do not have the ability to cry now
I see the world differently
I wish you saw it like me
I have a puzzle to put together
I wonder if you'll help me
I hear a song and must sing it
I see a picture and must take it
I see a world, a broken world
I want to fix that, too
I want to play
I need to work
I close my eyes and fall asleep
I remember everything
I forget my head
I stand in blue light
I see the world in shades of blue
I am lost
I have been waiting for you
I am the empty child
Are you my mommy?
Another poem, this one about my life with autism.

UPDATE: As of 10/20/12, this is my most favorited piece! Thanks everyone!

Very awesome.

Question. Do you have trouble making eye contact? Because for some reason, I just cannot make eye contact. I have to force myself to make eye contact, and it always feels weird when I do. (And by "some reason" I mean "I am ninety-five percent sure I have Asperger's.")

It concerns little miss Josie Brooks.

Josie is a little intern in my crime-solving series. She will eventually be a full-fledged crime solver.

Josie, sort of like Everyone's Favorite Male Fictional Albino (Ellison), has learning disabilities. She was very well-educated, however, and likes math. She's kind, optimistic, naive, and very very sweet.

However, Southerner that she is, she's full of piss and vinegar. She, like Ellison, got where she is now partly by her own gifts and partly by sheer determination. She's desperate for praise and can be one seriously pissed off lady when people insult her.

(She's sort of like Ellison, but moody and more of a perfectionist.)

Physically, she's around five three and slender. A very light skinned African American, she has dark brown eyes, wavy light brown hair that's usually did up all pretty-like, and olive skin. She's about twenty. She's very pretty and stylish and always wears pink girly clothes and a cameo necklace.

My question is, should she be called Josie or Josephine? Both sort of fit. Josie sounds more childlike, I think, which she is. But Josephine sounds sophisticated, and Josie wants to be seen as sophisticated.

I'm kind of leaning toward sticking with Josie, but still.

Thank you. She's a cutie. And unfortunately I (through some serious DBs) screw her over time and time again. Why do I do that to my characters?
